To be honest, for some core thinking on deeper levels require a quiet space to allow you mind to explore. Open offices do not allow such space. Even conference rooms are all glass! There is nothing wrong in having privacy or territory as you call it. Some people do best when left alone as they can concentrate on work instead of socializing or worrying about someone looking over your shoulders at all times. It does not promote freedom to work independently. Office plans should be decided based on the personalities of your workers. They should be allowed to choose a more private setting versus an open setting.
