Airport development is a highly specialized field. Aviation clients need an experienced partner that is well versed in the latest industry technological advancements, frequently changing guidelines and regulations, and innovative, custom solutions to deliver the most suitable, expedient and cost-effective projects. We regularly partner with airlines, airport authorities, transportation and regulatory agencies, and other key stakeholders across the country and right here in New York and New Jersey. No matter the scope or scale of the project, we find the best approach starts by listening 鈥� really listening 鈥� to our aviation clients to make sure we understand their needs and challenges. This allows us to develop tailored solutions that achieve our client鈥檚 goals and objectives.

Helping airlines advance their brand

With decades of aviation experience, we鈥檝e built strong partnerships with major airline carriers and the hubs and airports where they provide service. For example, we worked with American Airlines, providing design and program and construction management services for the original construction of Terminal 8 at the John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). As the first airline-built terminal at JFK in 30 years, we ensured that the $1.3 billion, 1.5 million square foot terminal was not only a well-functioning facility but was also consistent with American Airline鈥檚 brand strategy. Continuing our strong relation with American Airlines, we completed design for the expansion of Terminal 8 that successfully opened for business in 2022 鈥� the first project to be completed as part of the JFK Redevelopment Program for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).

Providing turnkey solutions to transportation agencies

Working with multimodal transportation agencies nationally and here in the region, we play a key role in capital planning to advance airport improvements. We have worked extensively at airports across New York and New Jersey, including JFK, LaGuardia Airport (LGA), Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR), Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BNIA), Syracuse Hancock International Airport (SYR), Albany International Airport (ALB), Westchester County Airport (HPN), Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) and Teterboro Airport (TEB), and with agencies such as the PANYNJ, New Jersey State System of Airports and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We leverage our local knowledge and global resources to provide turnkey solutions, from program and construction management, environmental assessments, and design and engineering services, to alternative delivery methods such as design-build. Recently, we partnered with PANYNJ at EWR to provide program management services for the new 1 million square foot, 33-gate Terminal A 鈥� improvements that include digital technology, expansive dining and retail options, dazzling artwork, 60 dining and retail options, and a modernized, common use check-in, security and baggage claim area 鈥� significant and welcome upgrades for the millions of passengers who pass through this Newark terminal each year. The first phase of EWR鈥檚 new Terminal A opened in 2023.

Tailoring our services for everyone

There is a saying in the aviation industry: if you鈥檝e seen one airport, you鈥檝e seen one airport. Every airport, regardless of size, requires specialized development plans. Understanding how to help our aviation clients is as critical as having the capability to help, which is why we customize our services to meet the specific needs of each airport we partner with. Through our five-year, on-call contract with SYR, we provided design and construction services for ground support services, replacing and modernizing seven passenger loading bridges to accommodate the airport鈥檚 expanding passenger enplanements. At ALB, we delivered new airfield lighting purposely designed to meet the challenges presented by upstate New York鈥檚 frequently excessive snowfalls. And at BNIA, we provided construction monitoring services for the expansion of the airport terminal and provided full site, civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and communication services for the design of a new ARFF facility. Recognizing the importance of these regional airports to the local communities they serve, we strive to be part of their story by remaining adaptable and flexible, working with our local teams while providing global resources to manage project expectations as they arise.
