Following the devastating earthquake in 2010 and Hurricane Matthew in 2016, the USAID HHIP was created to repair, renovate and equip the Haitian Ministry of Health鈥檚 damaged medical facilities. The program also constructs facilities in Haiti to strengthen local health referral networks and provide access to health care through sanitary and safe facilities.
The Goal
With USAID support, 91影视 is providing planning, design and construction management services to strengthen the capacity of the Haitian Ministry of Health to deliver critical healthcare services.
Solutions and Involvement
One of the most significant contributions to the HHIP scheme is the reconstruction of the National University General Hospital (L鈥橦么pital Universitaire d鈥櫭塼at d鈥橦a茂ti). The 5,850-square-meter (19,192-square-foot) complex in Port-au-Prince has modern teaching facilities, a school of nursing and a lab technician school. The National Campus for Health Sciences (Le Campus des Sciences de la Sant茅), which offers clinical training, is adjacent to the complex.
Achievements and Outcomes
Renovated medical facilities and new hospitals and health centers are giving Haitian citizens access to the basic health services they need to maintain a standard of living. In addition, design and construction of new medical supply warehouses in the west, north and south departments are supporting improved supply chains, leading to better care across the country.
